Turning Research into Action for a Healthier Indiana
At the Indiana Conservation Fund, we focus on evidence-based policy solutions that benefit Indiana’s economy and its environment. Our current work includes five issue areas:
- Clean Steel and Economic Future: Indiana’s industrial history is our strength. We are working with partners to research the future of steelmaking in Northwest Indiana, demonstrating that the transition to cleaner steel production is an economic imperative that protects thousands of good-paying jobs and keeps Indiana globally competitive.
- Utility Reform and Energy Affordability: Through our Help Hoosiers Now ratepayer relief initiative, we tackle rising utility costs. We advocate for regulatory changes that increase utility accountability, improve affordability, and create a fairer, more transparent energy system for all Indiana families.
- Wetlands Protection and GIS Mapping: We are building a comprehensive statewide wetlands inventory. By utilizing advanced GIS mapping, we identify at-risk landscapes, quantify the role of wetlands in flood mitigation, and advocate for data-driven policies to protect our water quality.
- Community-Led Conservation: We believe conservation is for everyone. We actively engage diverse communities—including our Statewide Hispanic Community Roundtable—to ensure that environmental policy reflects the priorities and voices of all Hoosiers, particularly those in communities disproportionately affected by pollution and climate risk.
- Defending Democracy: A healthy environment requires a functioning democracy. We are committed to ensuring fair representation in government, operating at the intersection of conservation and democratic participation.
